The Asantehene destooled the Asafohene

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II The Asantehene of the Ashanti Kingdom in Ghana has destooled one of his traditional leaders last week.

Akyamfour Kwame Akowuah III, The Asafohene of Kumasi, one of the many sub-chiefs in Asante was destooled in a final judgements by the Ashanti King due to criminal charges brought to Asafohene.

The Asafohene is accused of flouting the Great Oath of Asanteman, one of the pillars of the Asante Kingdom and found guilty of ten different charges. During a court case at the Manyhia Palace(official residence and seat of the Asantehene), the elders charged Kwame Akowuah with forty-five counts and according to them, the Asafohene was “autocratic”, did not respect them and performed his duties contrary to Asante customs and traditions.

He is delivering of the final judgement at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Thursday, June 20, 2019, the Ashanti King Tutu II said the Asafohene’s continous actions breached the Ashanti Kingdom's customs and traditions which are punishable.

According to media houses in the kingdom, it has been reported that Otumfuo had on several occasions warned Kwame on issues ranging from illegal sales of lands, pocketing the monies while flouting the Great Oath of Asanteman, destoolment and enstoolment of his sub-chiefs without informing his elders and the Astanehene.

The Asafohene is accused of having illegally sold lands to Business Mogul, Dr. Kwaku Oteng without the necessary documentations resulting in a litigation and his refusal to take care of his Queenmother which is his traditional mandate.

Akyamfo Kwame Akowuah III, Kumasi Asafohene who has just been destooled was the head of Akwamu Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC), and was enstooled in 2011.
