Malawi: Royal Wedding in Malawi

All roads were leading to Ntcheu last saturday November 3rd for double celebration as the Ngonis people from Malawi and surrounding countries came together to celebrate the Umhlangano and royal wedding.

The Umhlangano celebrations began on Friday morning November 1st with HRH Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V taking part in the early festivities with the blessing and slaughtering of the sacrificial calf by his officials. He joined in the festivities which took place throughout the day.

On Saturday all Ngonis met at 8 am at the Ntcheu Church of Central Africa Presbytery (CCAP) congregation, for the royal wedding of HRH Inkhosi ya Makosi Gomani V born Willard Mswati Gomani and his sweetheart South African born Rishaladza Khanyisa Mathebula.


Gomani V is the Ngwenyama of the Maseko Ngonis and one of 5 heirs to the Ngonis throne while the new Inkosikati LaMathebula is from Giyani in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

After exchanging vows, the newly weds joined the festivities dressed in their various traditional outfits at the reception in Nkolimbo Village, adjacent to the monument of the revered late Inkosi ya Makosi Chikuse Gomani I.

Various royals from across south Africans countries were in attendance including TRH Inkhosi Lugedlane II and Inkhosikati LaShongwe of the BakaLugedlane traditional council.
