A view in African Royal Families

In her role as Chairwoman of the National Observatory of the Child's Rights(French: l’Observatoire National des Droits de l’Enfant (ONDE)), HRH Princess Lalla Meryem chaired the closing ceremony of the 16th National Congress of the Rights of the Child.

During the Congress, The National Pact for Children by 2030 was signed by all concerned public, civil and private sector representatives to express the Kingdom's commitment to improve the life and protecting the rights of children.

Her Royal Highness who was handed the UN Champion Generation Unlimited Prize, awarded by the United Nations, in recognition for her efforts to promote and protect the rights of the child, listened to the various briefings given by various senior and international officials on the statues of the Moroccan Child as well as that of the African Child.  She also reviewed the achievements made and took part in the discussion in setting up an appropriate framework to uphold children’s rights.

The event was celebrated on the same day as the 30th anniversary of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 20th anniversary of the Parliament of the Moroccan child.

A happy belated to Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Also known as the Climate-Conscious Princess in Morocco, HRH was born on November 19th to HM King Hassan II and Lalla Latifa Hammou. She is the youngest of HM King Mohammed VI's sister.

She is a mother of two daughters, Lalla Oumaima Benharbit and Lalla Oulaya Benharbit with husband Dr. Khalil Benharbit.

She is involved in many royal duties and pays most attention to the environmental causes around the kingdom in which she chairs as president of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment and is founding patron of the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Trophies.

Two months ago she gave a speech on behalf His Majesty at the United Nation's General Assembly Climate Action Summit.

A week ago she presided over the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Trophies where she handed out awards to 24 environmentally friendly projects and initiatives in five categories on Wednesday November 13th, in Bouknadel, a city north of Rabat.

On November 20th, she was in the United States where she chaired a gala dinner in honours of the Royal Alawite(Alaouite) Dynasty. The Dynasty was dubbed as a "Dynasty of Tolerance" and the gala was organized by the Em Habanim Sephardic Center in Los Angeles, California.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem hosted an official dinner for America's first daughter Ivanka Trump on the occasion of her official visit to the kingdom at the Royal Palace in Rabat on November 7th.

Although His Majesty wasn't attending the dinner, he met with the President's Special Advisor privately for talks about her Women Empowerment trip and visit so far in and around Rabat as well as bilateral talks and friendship between the USA and Morocco

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem was present at the Rabat-Sale airport where she welcomed America's First daughter and advisor to the President, Ivanka Trump to the Kingdom of Morocco for her 2 days visit on November 6th.

A happy belated birthday to Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asma of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Her Royal Highness who celebrated her birthday in September 29th is the second daughter and third eldest child of Hassan II of Morocco and his second wife, Lalla Latifa Hammou.

She married to Khalid Bouchentouf with whom she has two children, a son and a daughter Moulay Yazid Bouchentouf and Lalla Nuhaila Bouchentouf.

When she is represents her sovereign and brother at various national or international events, she is patron and honorary president to various charities and NGO in the kingdom which includes:

SPANA (Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad).
Lalla Asma Foundation for Deaf Children.

Her Royal Highness who is celebrating her 57th birthday is the first born and first daughter of His Majesty the late King Hassan II and his wife, Lalla Latifa Hammou. Her siblings are: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, HRH Princess Lalla Hasna, HRH Princess Lalla Asmae

Her Royal Highness throughout her life has dedicated herself to her royal role as not only representing and aiding the late King her father and the current King her brother while pursuing her role as an advocate for women and vulnerable children in the Kingdom.

Following her graduation from Mohammed V University where she receive a Bachelors degree in 1981, Lalla Meryem was appointed by King Hassan II to serve as president of the Social Work of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

Amongst her work in the kingdom Her Royal Highness has been focusing on the plight of Morocco’s most needy people, she is presiding over the National Observatory for the Rights of the Child (ONDE), the Moroccan Association of Support for UNICEF, the Children’s Parliament, and the National Union of Women of Morocco (UNFM). She is also the President of the Moroccan National Observatory of the Childs Rights and President of the Hassan II Foundation for the social works of the former soldiers and ex-combatants. She was also nominated as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador with focus her Ambassadorship on UNESCO projects for women and children. Also Member of the Honorary Committee of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children.

In the last year, Lalla Meryem has attended numerous functions as part of her royal work. She launched the African Cities Without Street Children campaign in November 2018 during the Africities Summit.

In March, she was appointed by the secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Yousef Al-Othaimeen as goodwill ambassador for the prevention of child marriage and the promotion of family and marital values.

The princess also launched a vocational skills center for production, marketing, and training this year to help young people aged 15 to 30 to learn skills for the labor market, MAP reports.

During both her father's and brother's reign(prior to his marriage and now during the divorce) Lalla Meryem has been acting as the First lady often appears at his side at official functions. She has also stepped up to welcome fellow royal visitors with a few visiting Morocco in the past year, which included Princess Astrid of Belgium, Queen Letizia of Spain, and the UK’s Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Lalla Meryem got married on September 15th 1984 to Fuad Filali and together they have two children, Lalla Soukaina Filali and Moulay Idris Filali, and twin grandchildren, Hassan and Aya Regragui. The couple has since divorce

A happy Birthday to His Majesty King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco.

His Majesty who is celebrating his 56th birthday today is the eldest son of His Majesty the late King Hassan II and his second wife Lalla Latifa Hammou. He is the second born of the late king and was made heir apparent and Crown Prince at birth. His Siblings include TRH Princess Lalla Meryem, Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Princess Lalla Asma and Prince Moulay Rachid.

On July 22nd 1999, he was proclaimed king following the death of his father, and March 21st 2002 he married Salma Bennani, who he granted the personal title of HRH Princess Lalla Salma making her the first publicly known consort in the Kingdom. Together they have two children: 16 year old Crown Prince Moulay Hassan and 12 year old Princess Lalla Khadija.

Youth Day
On the occasion of youth day which falls of His Majesty's birthday as well as 66th Anniversary of King and the People’s Revolution, the 56 year old monarch granted royal pardon to over 705 inmates across the kingdom's prison.

Amongst those granted pardon, some had the sentences reduced

HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, in her capacity of Chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection, chaired the inauguration ceremony of the Hassan II International Center for environmental training. The meeting was held on Tuesday June 18th, in  in Bouknadel, near Salé.

Before the meeting, she unveiled the commemorative plaque at the Hassan II International Centre then was given a briefing of the centre's working and goals.

She then toured the centre, its environmental facilities and spoke with members of the boards as well as with staff .

HRH Princess Lalla Hasna presided over the opening of the 2019 edition of the Fez Festival held at BAB AL MAKINA Plaza in Morocco yesterday Friday 14th.
